Meet Broadsword's Cyber Security Apprentice

Blog
As our events agency continues to grow, we have welcomed four apprentices to our team and are delighted to share that Luke, Network Systems Administrator at Broadsword, has also enrolled on a level four cyber security apprenticeship. Apprenticeships create a culture of learning, and we are proud to extend this development opportunity to existing members of our team.

Luke shared more about his apprenticeship experience so far.

I am doing a Cyber Security Engineer apprenticeship alongside my role of Network Systems Administrator. The apprenticeship is about the ever changing Cyber Security landscape; understanding past changes and principles, and developing the ability to identify new threats. This helps me to increase value to Broadsword as it enables me to perform a wider range of tasks to a higher level.

I wanted to do a Cyber Security apprenticeship because the world of IT is forever evolving and I like to stay ahead of the curve. The apprenticeship itself encourages me to adapt, adopt a new way of thinking and keeps my skills sharp. The ability to do this along side my work without sacrificing personal time is wonderful.

Juggling work and study can be quite challenging especially as I am the only member in my division, but being flexible and managing time effectively is key for me. I like working for Broadsword because of the flexibility and the support to continuously improve professionally and personally. The support given from my managers and directors is amazing.

I would advise anyone wanting to go into Cyber Security to not be afraid of taking on new challenges”

There are many misconceptions surrounding apprenticeships whether it be they are only available for school leavers, or trade professionals, or that an apprenticeship is a step back. However, we believe this is the next step for developing the workforce within the events sector, and are incredibly proud that our team members increasingly disprove these myths and take the opportunity to up skill and develop.
