Meet Broadsword's Management Apprentices

News
We are proud to share that three of our senior leadership team members have started a level 5 apprenticeship programme on management with Pearson. The apprenticeship will provide formal training to develop our existing managers, giving them the opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge.

As we continue to advocate for apprenticeships in the events industry, we’ve found a world of opportunity through the training programmes including for senior and existing members of the team as well as juniors and new starters.

Aisha, Creative Lead, Rob, Head of Operations, and Liam, Head o Production, will all be undertaking the challenge alongside their full time roles at Broadsword. Here is what they’ve got to say about choosing to do the apprenticeship:

Aisha, Creative Lead at Broadsword

I’m always finding opportunities for growth and learning, so I wanted to do this apprenticeship to gain more leadership and management knowledge. I also lead a creative team whose needs are nuanced due to how we think and our processes, therefore doing this apprenticeship equips me to be the leader my team needs and to create an environment where they can thrive creatively. I’m really looking forward to my personal and professional development, and seeing what difference the apprenticeship makes to mine, my team’s and Broadsword’s growth.

It is a two-year apprenticeship with ample check-ins and support which is a huge positive for me. My life requires a lot of balance, so I’m pleased that the apprenticeship moves at my pace and provides the flexibility I need to achieve that balance”.

Rob, Head of Operations at Broadsword

I decided to take on this apprenticeship because it’s a great fit for my role in operations. I’ve been keen to build on my leadership and management skills, and this pathway offers a structured way to dive deeper into areas like operational strategy, change management, and resource planning. Plus, being able to learn alongside other industry professionals and bring back fresh insights to the team at Broadsword was a big motivator.

I’m really looking forward to the practical side of this apprenticeship, there’s a lot here that I can start applying right away with my team. I’m also interested in the chance to engage with peers and coaches, it’s a good opportunity to fine-tune my leadership style and find new ways to support my team’s effectiveness.

What’s positive about this apprenticeship is the mix of learning and hands-on experience, so it’s not just theory but real-world application. Having regular feedback and guidance is great for professional growth, and it’s nice knowing that the work I’m doing in the program directly benefits the goals we’re aiming for at Broadsword”.

Liam, Head of Production at Broadsword

I wanted to do this apprenticeship to build on my management skills, helping me to become a better leader for my team and support their growth effectively. I’m looking forward to diving into the wealth of resources this apprenticeship offers, gaining knowledge that will support not only my current role but also my commitment to lifelong learning.

The most positive aspect is being able to immediately apply what I learn in real-time, making this journey both practical and impactful as I progress over the next 24 months”.
