Awards

Overview

BIFA celebrates, promotes, and supports independent filmmaking and filmmakers in the UK. Setting the stage for a celebration of British independent film, Broadsword has supported the awards since 2009.
Celebrating the independent film community

The stars literally align on the red carpet at Old Billingsgate for a glittering celebration of British film where you don’t need a Hollywood budget to find yourself sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in cinema.

BIFA champions the best and most innovative independently funded British filmmaking – the awards revealing the best independent films of the year and spotlighting outstanding achievement from on-screen and off-screen talent and tomorrow’s stars.

Rolling out the red carpet

Broadsword worked closely with organisers running the ceremony, to film and stream the evening live from the venue via the web to a global audience that reached 800,000 views as well as supporting technical and audio visual production.

Managing the playback of film clips was a particular challenge given that the room was full of established filmmakers who know exactly how their work should look and sound, so there was no margin for error here.

Leading up to the Awards, Broadsword were tasked to film, capture and live stream a series of related events, including the Nominees Party and the Craft Winner Announcement.

On the night itself, as expected, the Awards journey began with a red carpet. Alongside house crews, special access photographers and wire press, Broadsword were able to showcase their ability to produce high quality, shareable footage at speed, capturing red carpet and reportage-style images and interviews of guests as they made their way along.

Thoughtfully produced

As well as an industry following, nominees, winners and ceremony guests, BIFA has a powerful public audience of film students, young filmmakers and film fans. To be eligible for consideration, films have to be intended for theatrical release, produced or co-produced by a British company and have budgets of under 10 million pounds.

Similarly, the event itself was not a big budget affair but it was crucial that the production was aligned to the audience. We used our creativity and innovation to create an impressive and dramatic awards show, with robust systems and thoughtfully produced filmed content.
